Where our information comes from
We use sources in this order of preference:
- Local utilities and government: Greenville Water, Greer CPW, MetroConnects, ReWa, Greenville County, the cities of Greenville, Mauldin, Greer, Simpsonville and Fountain Inn, SC LLR.
- Federal and research data: the U.S. Census Bureau (American Community Survey), the National Weather Service, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Clemson Cooperative Extension.
- Published prices from Greenville- or Greer-specific cost pages (for example HomeAdvisor and Angi city pages) and prices that local plumbing companies publish themselves.
- National cost guides, always labelled "national".
- Local news reporting (Post and Courier, Greenville News, Fox Carolina, WIS, SC Daily Gazette) for events such as freezes and storms.
How we present prices
Every price row shows its geography, source and date. We update price tables at least every quarter and note changes in the page history. We never change a year in a title without new data behind it.
What we don't publish
- Reviews, star ratings, testimonials or customer stories
- "Best plumber" rankings of named companies
- Claims we can't source
Use of AI tools
Drafts and outlines may use AI writing tools. Every page is fact-checked against its sources and edited by a person before it's published, and the sources are listed on the page.
Corrections and updates
If you spot an error, email hello@gvlplumbers.com with the page and the correction. We fix confirmed errors, update the date and record the change in the page history. Seasonal pages, such as the frozen pipes guide, are reviewed every fall.
